Hi there and welcome to My Back Pages. These photos go all the way back to my first band in Liverpool, Bandstand (yes, we had a real failure of inspiration that day) in 1976, and take in my other bands Terminal Beach (oh, the existential ennui!) and The Commotions (way way before Lloyd Cole and although we had to change our name when we played The Rock Garden) The archive features the first ever publicity shots of Skint Video, taken in Greenwich Park London on a freezing March day in 1982. The other guy is my original partner John Ivens, and the guy in the middle is our manager/ mentor Michael Belbin (known, for some obscure reason, as Talcum). John Ivens used to go out with Linda Savage, who was in a double act with Julian Clary called Glad & May.
It also features our Skint Video offshoot in 1986 The Cryptic Twins. (yes, there were five of us, including a mean bongo playing percussionist by the
name of Chris Cresswell).
It features myself and my comedy partner Brian Mulligan on the set of the Channel 4 film Out Of Order in 1988, as well as Red Wedge and our tours with Mark Hurst (aka Mark Miwurdz) and John Moloney.

There is also a shot of myself and the late Linda Smith in our show from 1992/3 Hello Cruel World .
What a long strange trip its been from The Liverpool docks to The Milton Keynes Bowling Alley. I do hope you enjoy looking at these photos as much as I enjoyed living them!
